Heidi Gay
Hello from France! My name is Heidi Gay ’15, and I am running for the Student Curriculum Committee (SCC) Head position.
As Head of the SCC, I would attend weekly meetings with the Curriculum Committee (CC) to discuss the upcoming reviews of the International Studies major, the Italian major and the Neuroscience minor (according to CC’s 2012-13 annual report) among other agenda items, and provide relevant student input. I would also be responsible for convening the SCC, attending SGA meetings, and managing the proctoring process during final exams.
I am quite familiar with the work that the CC does – in any case, as much as a student could familiarize oneself with, having read the reports and documents that the CC produces. Additionally, I have read most of the annual reports that the Committee on Academic Priorities (CAP) has produced within the last ten years. This is important, because CC works closely with CAP and is looking to increase corporation between the two committees in the following years.
My interest in the position comes from having read all those reports that I have mentioned above. Bryn Mawr and self governance is ubiquitous, and I would like to be involved in the curricular aspects of the college. I would like to continue on the work that Carolyn Jacoby ’14, as the current SCC head, has done in the past year by representing student interests in CC meetings and opening lines of communication between faculty governance and student governance.
I have been involved in campus life previously as the Head Sophomore Traditions rep for Rhoads South in 2012-13, and currently serve as a Haffner supervisor, an Admissions tour guide. Being abroad and visiting my friends on other campuses has made me realize how special our SGA is, and I hope to play a greater role and continue my involvement on campus next year as the SCC Head.
