Anna and Pamudu SoCoCandidates Statement for Heads of the Social Committee: Anna Sargeant (asargeant@brynmawr.edu) and

Pamudu Tennakoon (ptennakoon@brynmawr.edu)

We, Anna Sargeant and Pamudu Tennakoon, are running for Heads of the Social Committee for the 2014-2015 academic year. The Social Committee plans campus wide events during the academic year. We are running for this position because we want to organize accessible, inclusive, responsible, and fun activities for the Bryn Mawr undergraduate body.

Pamudu is an Erdman supervisor and a Customs Committee Advisor to the Customs People of Rockefeller and Erdman. Anna is President of the Beekeeping Club and a Carpenter Library circulation desk worker. Additionally Anna is a member of the Paid to Bounce Club which is under the jurisdiction of the Social Committee. These experiences, along with our current position as Traditions Mistresses, allowed us both to gain important experience and knowledge concerning event organization, committees, and budgeting. We have great time management and competence. Our skills complement each other’s and we understand our strengths and weaknesses. Pamudu is skilled at connecting with new people, working in groups, delegating tasks, and dealing with large budgets. Anna is great at maintaining communication, utilizing off-campus resources, and keeping a tight schedule.

We believe that the Social Committee can be better utilized in many respects. In order to improve the Social Committee we would like to take the following steps. We want to increase the visibility of the Paid to Bounce Club. By making the Bouncers more available we would like to take the pressure off the hosts of large parties such as Dorm Presidents.

We are interested in working with the Residential Council Head(s) and the administration to discuss the role alcohol plays on this campus. We would live to create a safe and fun environment on campus, especially around social events.

We would like to host one or two large events per semester for the community. We would like to reach out to the community in order to gain input on ideas on events that we should organize. In addition, we will organize events that will be held at different times of the day such as parties in the night and spring activities outside in the afternoon.
