Audrey Burnim and Ann Lin
Hi Class of 2017!
We are Audrey & Ann and we’re running to be co-presidents of the Class of 2017. A little bit about us: Audrey’s from north of Boston and Ann’s from Taiwan, but has also lived in California and Australia. Audrey plays rugby and volunteers for Belmont while Ann runs cross country and track & field.
Many can attest that it takes us about 10 minutes longer than it should to walk anywhere. Why? Because we’re always stopping to talk to people! Whether you’re in our classes or live in our dorm, we always want to hear what’s going on with all of you – we care. And we’ll continue to care as your class presidents. For those who we haven’t met, we look forward to getting to know you in the coming weeks and we hope that you’ll always feel comfortable telling us what’s on your mind. We don’t simply want the title. We want to be your voice, your representative, and your friend.
We all picked BMC so that we could be part of a small community of people who all care about each other unconditionally. For this next year, we want to help strengthen this community. The way we see it, the class presidents’ most important responsibility is connecting with their classmates to earn their trust and to create a sense of unity. Every student should feel like a part of the family we have here, and we want to make sure that happens. We live a uniquely fantastic life here at BMC, but there’s always room for improvement and change. We will always be here for you and will dedicate ourselves to our class and our school so that no one will describe their sophomore year as anything other than amazing.
We believe that we have the ability to effectively serve and we’d be thankful for your vote. You can ask us about our qualifications whenever you see us, but we wanted this statement to focus not on what we’ve done in the past, but what we can do for you as we move forward. We’re already excited to hopefully be able to plan fun teas that have activities such as making dorm decorations or a scavenger hunt. We also understand that not everyone has time to attend teas, so we’d like to hold lunches at Erdman or Haffner at least once a month so that you can tell us about any issues you might want us to address or to simply to talk! Traditions are big thing at Bryn Mawr, and we’d love to create some Class of 2017 ones.
We will also make ourselves available as much as possible, because after meeting so many of you, we realize that the biggest mistake that we could make would be neglecting the wealth of ideas that you all possess. For anyone that would like to talk more, feel free to come by Pem East 110 or 112 and we’d love to chat.
Cheers,
Audrey & Ann.
Odeymarys Garrido and Aleja Newman
Hi!! We are Odeymarys Garrido and Aleja Newman and we are running for 2017 Sophomore Co-Class Presidents. We are really excited to run for this position because we are passionate about serving the Bryn Mawr community; especially our class and we hope to continue to foster a sense of community and inclusion.
Throughout the years, we’ve acquired leadership experience that has prepared us to assume the responsibilities of Sophomore Co-Class Presidents. Odeymarys Garrido, this year’s current Class President, has planned many successful teas throughout the year, and has worked closely with the sophomore class presidents and thus understands their duties very well. Aleja was a Rhoads South Freshman Dorm Representative and was a President of a youth group for three years before attending Bryn Mawr.
Through our experiences we’ve strengthened and developed our organizational and time management skills. However, most importantly we have learned the importance of collaborating and working with others in order to efficiently and effectively get tasks done. We both find SGA to be an extremely integral part of Bryn Mawr as it serves as an opportunity for all of the students to give their input and be represented in the community; therefore, we would love to continue to be active members apart of SGA.
As class presidents, we look forward to planning teas and other activities to provide a space to bring our class together and create a source of support. Moreover, we look forward to working with you all through open communication in order to represent you and your ideas. Our positive attitudes will allow us to work together well and thus be able to fulfill our duties and we are confident that we can establish a welcoming environment where our class feels comfortable.
We understand our responsibilities to help plan and prepare for Hell Week activities and we are extremely, beyond excited to work with the Traditions Mistresses to do so. Hell Week is very special to us and we understand how important it is to Bryn Mawr, so we will work hard and dedicate the time necessary to ensure the incoming first years have just as an amazing of an experience as we did.
Its crazy to think our first year is so soon to end, however we are so excited for our next adventure together here at Bryn Mawr as sophomores. We love talking to people and making new friends so if you see either of us do not hesitate to say hello!! Odeymarys is available through e-mail at: ogarrido@brynmawr.edu , and Aleja is available through e-mail at: anewman02@brynmawr.edu, so please message us if you have any questions.
