Bara’ Almomani
My name is Bara’ Almomani and I am a current sophomore in the process of declaring a Biology major. To me, vice president is mainly about getting to know the person interested in the position and why they want to be part of the committees and act as representatives.
My areas of strength revolve mainly around what this position requires. I am great in managing large group situations that require hearing and weighing out everyone’s viewpoints. I can put myself in each person’s situation and understand their passion and their goals. As vice president, I will take role in appointing the appropriate people to the positions they desire amongst the appointed committees. My past experiences have dealt with being the co-president of a club on campus. I emphasized the priorities and made sure that everyone recognizes their voice is being heard. I’m also part of the dorm leadership team, so as a peer mentor I would have to collaborate not only with the rest of the dorm leadership members but also with other campus members such as the Dean’s Office, Dinning Halls, Campus safety,… to make sure everyone is aware and can access the resources on campus. In stressful times, I am capable of facilitating and leading the conversation by calming everyone down and refocusing on the main topic.
I never did feel that I belonged to SGA until recently where I participated as one of the attendants at the seven sisters conference. That’s when I realized what SGA is capable of and how much I enjoyed being part of the group that represented Bryn Mawr College. I would really like to stress on having everyone realize that they do belong to SGA and can play part in the changes they want to see. My main goal is to make sure that the campus realizes the efforts put by the committee members and the resources offered to us as a whole and how we can all benefit from it.

Alexis De La Rosa
My name is Alexis De La Rosa and I am running for SGA Vice-President. I am interested in this position because I am an invested member of SGA and I truly care about the Bryn Mawr community. Bryn Mawr was my first choice college and I immediately felt at home thanks to the student body. My peers challenge me to be the best version of myself every day, and a large reason I decided to run for this position is due to the love and support of my fellow Mawrters. I want to fully engage with the students in our community, and one of the best ways to do that is to dive into SGA. The Vice-President position typically deals with the Appointments Committee and students running for appointed positions; it is an amazing way to meet and work with people as well as help students get involved in SGA. If I am elected Vice-President I will give top priority to my duties working with SGA. I take this position very seriously and am confident that I will put forth my best effort should I be elected. I have experience working an executive board as I have been on the Mujeres E-board for 2 years now. I am currently Co-President of the affinity group and understand the type of work and dedication a role like this requires. I am also in my second year as a Student Representative to the Board of Trustees—a role that I very much enjoy and that inspired me to become more involved with SGA. In addition, I serve on the Student Housing Options Committee that is helping realize the plans for a new residential hall and Perry House. These positions have prepared me to exhibit discipline, determination and organization in the Vice-President position that I would be honored to hold. My main goal should I be elected Vice-President is that every student at Bryn Mawr feels represented within SGA. I hope to reach out to all community members, and make an effort to include those who feel like they do not have a place or role with regards to Self-Governance at Bryn Mawr. Self-Governance should empower us to grow and learn together, not make members of our community feel silenced. I believe in the guiding principles that Bryn Mawr was founded on, and strive to live by them daily. I hope that you will allow me to serve as your Vice-President, and I look forward to the future of Self-Governance at Bryn Mawr.

I am interested in running for SGA VP because I think that the lack of freshman involvement in SGA is detrimental to the growth of the school. We learn a lot from the upperclassmen here and they are great role models for us, but I think it is important to start including more freshmen in executive positions in the SGA.
The job of the SGA VP is to work closely with the appointments committee and advise them in their decision of whom to appoint to the various committees. I understand this is a huge responsibility, but as a freshmen I don’t have a lot of commitments nor a complicated course load, therefore I have the extra time it takes to get the job done and do it well.
In high school I was a member of our Habitat for Humanity club, which picks its members with a goal of properly representing the student body and diversity. Over the summer I helped choose the new members of the club and was able to see what goes into the decision-making process and how to merge opposing opinions together in order to reach a final outcome.
As Vice President one of my main goals would be to increase underclassmen viewpoints and encourage them to get involved in SGA. It is easy as a freshman to get lost in the shuffle and miss opportunities on campus, but SGA is one that should be taken advantage of. There are so many ways to get involved and that information is just not as accessible as it could be to the underclassmen.
I understand that I am new to SGA this semester, but I firmly believe that a fresh outlook is just what the SGA needs to hit it’s greatest potential. I really think I can make a positive difference in the Bryn Mawr community.

I’m running for SGA vice president for the 2014-2015 year. I have first started getting involved in SGA in my freshman year as a member of the Social Committee, and I have enjoyed working closely with my fellow members to plan and host the winter formal party held last winter. Although it was an enriching experience, now I want to be more actively involved with the SGA itself and the student body, and I wish to do this through the position of the Vice-President to improve and empower our community.
As Vice President, I will do my best to uphold the standards of the Bryn Mawr community and work wholeheartedly to make sure that the student body is being represented by people who are well suited to their positions. I have served in several Executive Committees in the past, one of them being the Ambassadors club in high school during which I had the chance to review and appoint new members, so I am familiar with the process of appointments. I am a very meticulous, organized and committed person and I am very much aware of the significance and responsibility of the role that the Appointments Committee plays in SGA, and I will strive to meet the expectations associated with it when working together with the members of the Appointments Committee. I would also work to ensure the student body is better informed of how the SGA works, encourage Mawrters with a love for the college to play an active role in the community they are part of, and make the workings of the SGA more transparent so that the hard work done by committees to improve the community in various ways receives more appreciation.
Thank you all for supporting SGA and I hope you will give me the chance to serve you all and make sure every single one of you are represented through the amazing members of the SGA. Thank you!
